Dr. Joseph Wright, the Vice President and Chief Health Equity Officer at the University of Maryland Medical System, examines the fallacy of race as a biologic proxy and how this false equivalency is embedded in clinical practice guidelines. Dr. Wright recently published an AAP policy statement, Eliminating Race-Based Medicine, in which he and his colleagues reaffirm the AAP’s commitment to dismantling the “structural and systemic inequities that lead to racial health disparities.”
