Doctor’s Note: June Newsletter Introduction (and farewell) from Dr. Mark Weissman

Dear colleagues,

When I matched for pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital in DC – 50 years ago (!) – I recall thinking, “Three years and I’m so out of here…”. I couldn’t imagine how DC would become my home and my career would connect me with so many wonderful friends and colleagues. I knew early on that taking care of children (and families) was what I wanted to do. I didn’t envision taking on additional roles: teaching & training in primary care; developing innovative educational programs – both clinical and business; networking with primary care colleagues in our community to improve care delivery, clinical outcomes and payor contracts; and taking on leadership positions in community health. It’s been a wonderful ride. I could not have been successful without extraordinary friends, colleagues, and co-conspirators. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I can’t fully imagine what the next 50 years will bring – for children & pediatricians – but I’m confident that our pediatric community will be in good hands. “True North” for me has always been taking extraordinary care of our children and each other. I hope you all will find your True North – and happiness.
