I hope that you are all enjoying your summer and taking some time to be with family and friends (and managing to stay somewhat cool….the AC in our house broke on one of the hottest days of the year, but thankfully it is back working again!). It was wonderful to see many of you at the recent Future of Pediatrics meeting and celebrate Dr Mark Weissman. Mark was one of my earliest and most formative mentors here at Children’s National – I will be forever grateful for his wisdom, support and general good humor (even when things were going awry!).
Care for ourselves and others is even more important because – wow – what a summer it has been with concerning and continued threats to child health and immunization delivery systems that worry us on so many levels. I continue to feel incredibly lucky to be a part of a local, regional and national pediatric community that cares so deeply about the health of children and families, and continues to show up day after day to provide the best possible care despite the challenges. While there is much hard work ahead, there is no better group I’d rather do it with. Thank you to each and every one of you for all that you do. It’s not always easy, and it is not always recognized, but please know that every day you make an important difference in the lives of children and families.
