Dear Pediatric Health Network colleagues,

I hope you all had a wonderful summer and are settling into the new school year. My family and I took a once-in-a-lifetime trip this summer to the Paris Olympics and had a wonderful time!  There were so many truly magical experiences, but one thing that really stood out to me was the ever-present feeling of connectedness that permeated the city – fans cheering on athletes from other countries in comradery with the people sitting next to them, passers-by helping each other out, turquoise clad volunteers warmly greeting every person who walked by, and athletes running to the stands to embrace their loved ones after a race or a game.   It was a reminder of the value of each individual act of support and kindness, and how together they can create a wave that transforms an entire experience or culture.

We are fortunate to have that kind of community in pediatrics and in PHN.  This month’s newsletter shares a number of different opportunities to learn and spend time together – I hope you will be able to take advantage of some of them.  For those of you who will be in Orlando at the AAPs National Conference and Exhibition, we’d love for you to join us at the reception on Sunday night, co-hosted by Children’s National and PHN – it promises to be a wonderful opportunity to re-connect with new and old friends! Please register here.

Another way we have connected is through the PHN Behavioral Health Initiative Quality Improvement Learning Collaborative, which is focused on Integrated Behavioral Health Care.  Practices work together in small cohorts and with the support of our QI and Behavioral Health teams to develop individualized goals and increase the level of mental health integration in their practices.  Our second cohort is now underway, and we will be opening recruitment for a third cohort later this fall – keep your eyes open for that opportunity!   You will also be hearing more from us soon about ways you can give detailed input into next steps for the Behavioral Health Initiative – again, stay tuned!

Have a wonderful fall, and hope to see you in Orlando!

Sincerely,
Lee Beers, M.D.
